Commentary
And when one who does such a thing, the corruption of his opinion becomes apparent to him. He stands with the desires of his soul, becoming frowning and doing things that change his appearance without his choice. He said: "Then he frowned," meaning he contracted his face and became darkened. His face became clouded with the tightening of his skin between his eyes due to intense dislike, like one who is accused and is pondering something while he finds no relief in it. This is because he is constrained by the means, as he did not find in what the Prophet brought, blessings and peace be upon him, any point of contention. "And he frowned" is a continuation of "frowned" as an emphasis for it. It may also imply that he examined what he said and weighed it with the scale of thought, following it excessively until his footing became firm in it. Thus they said it is a following if it is intended for emphasis; otherwise, it has been mentioned individually. It is said in the dictionary: "frowned" - if he frowned, and "he sought the need" means he sought it at an inappropriate time, and "he demanded the debt" means he claimed it before its due time. So it is as if when thinking prolonged upon him, he began to hasten its arrival to his desire. It is said: "he began" - if he initiated something. So it is as if when he frowned, the thought of magic occurred to him, and he began to express what came to his mind regarding his matter. Ibn Burjan said: "Frowning is a state in the face that indicates sorrow in the heart."
