And when what has passed from this surah of rulings, encouragement, and warning has been a guide to the heights of morals, saving from all evil, he said, resuming and affirming a reminder of its greatness and that it is something that should be emphasized: "Indeed, this" meaning the preceding part of this surah "is a reminder" meaning a great reminder that is worthy of being heeded by the one who takes admonition and reflects upon it, especially what has been mentioned in it regarding the people of disbelief and the types of punishment. And when glorified and exalted is He, has made for man a mind by which he perceives good and evil, and a choice by which he is able to follow what he desires, there remains for him no barrier from the choice of what is better and best except the compulsion of the will, of which he has no knowledge and no means in it. This is caused by His saying: "So whoever wills" meaning the remembrance for admonition "let him take" meaning he should take with all his effort "to his Lord" meaning specifically, not to others "a way" meaning a path that deprives him of his shares because there is no ambiguity in it, so he follows according to what has come to him from the reminder. And that is holding fast while proceeding with the Book and the Sunnah in accordance with what the ummah has agreed upon. And whenever he deviates from that, he perishes.
