Commentary
(p-27) And when this is a great matter, He depicted some of its terrors as an increase in its greatness, and He said: ﴿The heaven﴾ meaning in its greatness, height, and the intensity of its firmness. And when the intended meaning is the comprehensive kind that includes everything, He mentioned it and said: ﴿Rending﴾ meaning split apart, separating from the awe of the Lord, like the separation of the thread from the string. And if it were feminine, it would have been apparent in one of the heavens. And in choosing the masculine, there is also another subtlety, which is the understanding of the increased intensity in the terror leading to its rending, which is in the utmost intensity because the masculine in everything is more intense than the feminine. And all of this is to emphasize the day mentioned ﴿by it﴾ meaning with the intensity of that day, and its 'ba' (ب) is for the tool. It is permissible for it to mean 'in it' meaning that the rending and splitting occurs in the clouds and the descent of the angels, and other things from the falling and the overwhelming upon the intensity of its binding. So what do you think of other than it?
And when this is great, He began to clarify its insignificance in relation to its greatness, glorified and exalted is He, and He said: ﴿Was﴾ meaning in every condition and by every consideration ﴿His promise﴾ meaning the promise of Allah which was previously mentioned in the manifestations of greatness. So the addition to the source upon the doer ﴿is made﴾ meaning easy, completed in whatever it was. So how about if it were on this day which is the place of wisdom, (p-28) or the pronoun for the day, the addition to the object indicates that the promise occurring by it and in it must happen, and it is known that it can only be from Allah.
