Commentary
And when sending is a cause for acceptance or rejection, He said: ﴿So Pharaoh disobeyed﴾, meaning by what he has of crooked nature. ﴿The Messenger﴾, meaning the one whom we previously mentioned that we sent to him, became known to you after what he showed him of clear miracles and decisive signs - by which the manifestation of greatness was indicated. Therefore, his disobedience was caused by his saying: ﴿So We seized him﴾, meaning by what we have of greatness. And it was made clear that he was seized and overpowered, and His anger was expressed by His saying: ﴿A severe and heavy seizing﴾, meaning a heavy, intense, exhausting, and constricting seizing, with a bad outcome from their saying: foul food - when it is repulsive and cannot be enjoyed, meaning it does not settle in the stomach nor is it easy for him. And that is because We destroyed him and all those with him; We did not leave any of them. - And the principle of repeating the indefinite and definite will come, if Allah, the Exalted, wills, in 'Did We not expand'.
