Commentary

And when he mentioned their confusion regarding him, and he presented what is more important concerning him, which is revealing their gloom by informing them that what they denied about him is what is rightfully his. And that with his weakness in facing them, he is weaker in turning away from Allah, for Allah is stronger than everything, and that there is nothing for him except obeying His command. He indicated that they are incapable of His might, glorified and exalted is He, by their inability to withstand Him. He stated this explicitly as a threat to them. He said, changing their confusion regarding him: 'Until when they see' meaning with their eyes in it 'what' meaning the thing that. And when the threatened punishment is established upon everyone for whom the warning is intended, not being from a specific one, he said: 'They are warned' meaning what the warning has occurred in this world or in the Hereafter. As for the Hereafter, it is clear. And as for this world, it is like the expulsion of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, while the polytheists gathered to plot against him to kill him, and their striving in that, then his raids and battles like the Battle of Badr and others from the days of Allah that filled the earth with light and the people of truth with joy and happiness, and the people of falsehood with loss, ruin, fear, destruction, and graves. 'So they will know' meaning from that day which will be the day of its interpretation with a promise that there is no changing in it and no prolongation of its duration. 'Who is weaker in helper' meaning from the side of the helper, I, even if I am at this time alone and weak, or they 'and fewer in number' even if they are now in a situation that only Allah, glorified and exalted is He, can count them. So, how great is the speech of the messengers when they consider themselves weak from where they are, and they mention their strength from the side of their Lord, in whose hand is the dominion and to whom belong the armies of the heavens and the earth, unlike the people of disbelief, for they have no speech except in glorifying themselves and belittling others. And if you confront one of the followers of any of them, he says, 'This is on the tongue of prophecy' - and similar to this is from their deceptions.
