And when it became apparent to the soul of the listener regarding his saying, blessings and peace be upon him, to those who have accumulated upon him from that, he began the response by saying, clarifying what is impossible for the prophets, may blessings and peace be upon them, from calling upon other than Allah and whoever abandons calling upon Him from opposing anything of His command. He said, or when his soul longed for the recitation of the opening to what would repel what he saw from them, Allah, the Exalted, said, guiding him to that: "Say" meaning to whoever crowded around you, counting them among the ignorant of what you do because they acted like the ignorant: "Indeed, I only call" meaning the call of worship "my Lord" meaning the One who created me and nurtured me, and there is no blessing for me except from Him alone. I do not call upon anyone else until you marvel at me and crowd around me. The apparent meaning that comes to mind is that the meaning is: And it was revealed to me [that is -] when I stood [in prayer -] worshiping Allah in the heart of a palm tree, and the jinn whom Iblis directed towards Tihamah saw me [and -] they heard the Qur'an, they crowded around me until they almost overwhelmed me, and some of them were upon others. They heard my declaration of the Oneness of Allah and my glorification of Him and singling Him out with power and knowledge and all attributes of perfection, and they believed. It is said that this is the account of the jinn to their people about the prayer of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and his companions acted behind him in their rows in their prayer and their gatherings with him, and his admonition and teaching to them. This saying is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, and Sa'id ibn Jubair, for that is a strange state. It is narrated that the king of the Persians sent someone to those who entered into Islam when they aimed for his land, and among what was reported to him about them was that he said: When they pray, they align themselves in rows, and a man leads them. They stand with his standing, and they prostrate with his prostration, and they sit with his sitting, and they do as he does, with no disagreement among them. So when the king heard that, he was astonished and said: What is it to me and these people? What is it to me and Umar? And Abu Hayyan reported from Makhul that it reached him that those who followed the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, on the Night of the Jinn were seventy thousand, and they finished at the break of dawn.

And when the caller to the one who has bestowed upon him may have associated others with him in his supplication, even with the slightest forms of association, and the restriction is based on the majority, it deserved denial [against him -] and crowding. He negated that with his saying, affirming the meaning of the restriction and realizing it: "And I do not associate with Him" meaning now nor [in -] the future of time in any way from the ways of association, "anyone" from Wudd, Suwa, and Ya'ghuth, and others from the silent and the speaking.
