Commentary
And when the decree was: because He revealed to me that the matter is as you are accustomed to among yourselves, that whoever serves another than his master will be punished forever, He followed this with His saying, clarifying the conduct of the prophets, blessings and peace be upon them, and what is required of them in terms of the perfection that comes with the two strengths of knowledge and action, and the completion that is achieved through them along with the strength of expression. And whoever is not complete cannot be imagined to bring forth a child with a heart, just as whoever has not reached maturity cannot be realized to have a strong child. And clarifying what is permissible for them and what is impossible from them and what Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has in terms of care for them: "And that" meaning, and He revealed to me that "the mosques" meaning the places of prostration from the worldly horizons of the earth and from the inner world of the body - as said by Sa'id ibn Jubayr and Talq ibn Habib - "for Allah" meaning dedicated to the Greatest King. "So do not invoke" meaning because of this, O creatures, as a matter of habit, "with Allah" meaning the One who has all greatness, "anyone" because whoever worships another than his master in the dominion of his master, who is the worldly universe, and with the instrument of his master, who is the inner world, is the most deserving of blame and punishment. So how is it fitting for you to create for yourselves a face and hands and two legs and a land from which you benefit and a sky that completes its benefit, so you prostrate with the limbs that He created for you in the earth that He made possible for you to benefit from under the sky that He completed its benefits for others? So you would have diverted the blessing of the master, for which gratitude is due to Him, to others. Would a sane person do this? Al-Baghawi said: If the mosques are made places of prayer, then one of them is with a broken ج (jeem), and if you make them the limbs, then one of them is with an opened ج (jeem).
