And when this was clear, but they are a stubborn people, nothing will turn them back except the shining sun at noon. He mentioned them, after reminding them of what is within themselves, with what is greater than that from the signs of the horizons, and divided them into upper and lower. He began with the selves because, with their honor, they are the closest perspective to them. Then he followed with the upper because it is next in honor and clarity of the signs. He said, indicating the ability for resurrection and recompense with reward and punishment: "Did you not see?" meaning, O people.
And when contemplating the hows requires precision and stopping at wonders and subtleties that certainly indicate that their doer is not incapable of anything, he said, rebuking them for their lack of contemplation: "How did Allah create?" meaning, He who has complete knowledge, perfect ability, and absolute greatness. "Seven heavens" are in the utmost height, vastness, perfection, and beauty, and their being seven is known by what is in them of beauty.
And when the correspondence between opposites is extremely difficult, hardly anyone can achieve it from all angles, he said: "In layers" meaning, each one is above the other, and each one in the one that follows it surrounds it, "with no gaps in them"; the complete correspondence can only be like this, with encompassing from every side.
