And the mountains, which are the strongest of the earth and the heaviest of what is in it, will be like wool, meaning dyed wool of various colors, which the wind blows away like dust. This is because the mountains, in their essence, are colorful, as Allah, the Most High, said: 'And of the mountains are tracts white and red' [Fatir: 27]. Al-Baghawi said: 'The term 'wool' is only used for dyed wool.' He said: 'The first thing that happens to the mountains is that they become fine sand, then wool that is fluffed up, then dust that is scattered.'
