Commentary
'On the condition that We replace' [meaning] 'a great replacement with what We have of majesty in exchange for them.' 'Better than them' means 'in creation' or 'changing the description so that they would be more abundant in this world, and have more wealth and children, and higher status, and more followers, and prestige, and wisdom, and servants. They would be with you as a creation with one heart in hearing your words, and honoring you, and glorifying you, and striving in everything that expands your chest, instead of what these people do of mockery, clapping, and whistling, and everything that constricts your chest. And He has done that, glorified is He, with the Emigrants and the Supporters and those who follow them with goodness, by expanding their provision through taking the wealth of the tyrants from Khosrow and Caesar, and being established in the land until they became the kings of this world while acting in a way that earns them [the kingdom of] the Hereafter. They sought relief from the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and sacrificed their souls and wealth for his pleasure. And when 'the human' may do something and then retract from it, He informed that He, glorified is He, is not like that, so He said: 'And what' and emphasized the matter with the existent name in the manifestation of greatness, so He said: 'We' and deepened the negation by saying: 'preceded by' meaning 'from what precedes that overcomes something We did not intend in any way.' And for that reason, He used the name of the passive participle.
