Commentary
And when this divine speech has been clarified, which no sane person doubts that a created being cannot achieve, and that only Allah, the One who has no partner, can achieve it, the All-Knowing of everything, the Able to do everything, it is known that one cannot seek to rid oneself of the shortcomings of humanity until one transitions from the darkness of deficiency to the light of excellence, except for one who adheres to these attributes and purifies his soul with them to become complete. With certain knowledge, both the Muslim and the disbeliever know that perfection is the cause of happiness, and that humanity is naturally inclined to what has been decreed by Him, glorified is He, regarding deficiencies. It is known that those who possess these attributes are the ones specifically destined for ultimate happiness. The disbelievers would come to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and sit around him close by to hear his words, to deny them and mock them. A sane person should not approach anything, especially if his approach to it is in a hurried manner, except to attain happiness. This is caused by his statement expressing the greatness of the Qur'an, as its essence is that when they hear it, they become so frightened by its matter that they cannot control themselves and act like those who have no awareness: 'So what is the matter with those who disbelieved?' That is, what is there of happiness for those who have covered the vistas of their minds from acknowledging the content of this speech, which is clearer than the sun, while they are 'before you,' meaning towards you, O noble Messenger, and in what they approach you 'rushing,' meaning hastening with [stretching] their necks and continuously looking at you in utmost admiration of your words, in the awe of one who strives towards a matter without which he has no life.
