Commentary
And when he mentioned the adornment of purifying the soul through prayer and the purification of wealth through charity, he urged to abandon a matter that combines the defilement of wealth and the soul, which is adultery driven by the desire of the private parts, which is the greatest of desires leading the soul to destruction. He said after mentioning the warning of punishment, to inform that it is quicker for the one possessing this capability to fall into it than a fly into the sweetest drink. He said: 'And those who are', meaning by their inner selves predominant over their outward selves, 'for their private parts', meaning whether they are male or female, 'are guardians', meaning a constant and enduring guarding against all that Allah has prohibited.
