Commentary
And when it was one of the most astonishing wonders that anyone would turn to the world while hearing this threat of exposure before Allah and the punishment for those who do not turn to His worship, glorified and exalted is He, it was made clear that this is due to what He has created him upon, glorified and exalted is He, and that man is compelled by his nature except for whom Allah protects. And that is [indicative] from both sides of His great power, glorified and exalted is He. He said, affirming the necessity of the situation for emphasis, that if man were to be threatened with exposure before some of the rulers, he would not engage in what angers him. So how about the Almighty, the Wise, the Powerful, the All-Knowing: ﴿Indeed, man﴾, meaning this species, he expressed it for what he has of familiarity with himself and the perception of its beauties, and the forgetfulness of his Lord and his sin.
And when the situation called for clarifying the nature that drives to what it necessitates by the choice of its owner in a way that seems like compulsion, clarifying the ease of matters upon Him, glorified and exalted is He, He built for the action His saying: ﴿He was created anxious﴾, meaning he was created with a nature in which he is exceedingly anxious, which is the most extreme form of agitation along with intense greed, little patience, and stinginess towards wealth, and a desire for what is not appropriate. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he is the one who is greedy for what is not lawful for him, and it has been narrated from him that his interpretation is what follows.
