And when this world and the Hereafter are two opposites, then turning towards one of them indicates turning away from the other. He means by saying: ﴿And he gathered﴾ that he gathered everything that was attributed to this world.

And when it is customary that whoever has this world as their greatest concern, their concern is in gathering wealth and not spending it, this is a reason for his gathering. His words: ﴿So he hoarded﴾ mean that he placed what he gathered in a container and hoarded it out of greed and long hope, and he did not give the right of Allah in it. Thus, his concern was in hoarding and not in giving what was due of the right, turning towards this world and turning away from the Hereafter.
