Commentary

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, informed of their destruction and what it caused from their sayings and actions, and it was for the purpose of relieving the greatness in hearts by depicting the one who saves minds from what is not hidden, He summarized that by mentioning that it befell them specifically what they attributed to the believers of loss. He said: ﴿Those who denied Shu'ayb﴾ meaning: they attributed to him lying regarding what he said about us, and we supported him in it with clear signs.

﴿As if﴾ meaning: they are the ones specifically destined for destruction (p-8) until it is as if they did not dwell, meaning: they did not descend and reside, and their position was nullified while they were indulging in joy, singing, and being self-sufficient from the delights, which are the abodes and self-sufficiency,

﴿In it﴾ meaning: the abode due to their denial.

And when the denial of the truthful, especially the messengers, is extremely disgraceful, He repeated it as a reference to that and an indication that it is a cause for them greater than the destruction of bodies, contrary to what the affirmation caused for the believers. He said: ﴿Those who denied Shu'ayb﴾ meaning: thus, his denial was a cause for their destruction,

﴿They were﴾ meaning: due to the denial as well,

﴿They﴾ meaning: specifically,

﴿The losers﴾ meaning: they lost their souls just as they lost their bodies; they are more lost regarding anything else. As for those who followed him, nothing of loss befell them. And in this resumption, beginning, and repetition, there is an exaggeration in refuting the statement of the elite to their followers, and a belittling of their opinions, and mockery of their advice to their people, and an astonishment at what befell them.
