And when He commanded them and forbade them, He mentioned to them encouragement while alluding to intimidation, so He said: ﴿And remember﴾, meaning: the favor of Allah upon you ﴿when He made you successors﴾, meaning: in what you are in ﴿after 'Aad﴾, meaning: their destruction ﴿and settled you in the land﴾, meaning: He made for you in its kind dwellings to which you return at your times of rest. He made it easy for you to work in any land you wanted, which He did not make easy for others. For this reason, He explained the intended meaning by saying: ﴿You take﴾, meaning: by what you have of resources ﴿from its plains palaces﴾, meaning: buildings - made of clay, bricks, and tiles - spacious, tall, and beautiful, where the hope of the hopeful and the gaze of the observer is limited by what is in it of amenities and beauties ﴿and you carve out of the mountains﴾, meaning: any mountain you wanted, you are capable of it ﴿houses﴾.

And when He reminded them of these favors, encouraging and intimidating - He repeated that as an indication and expression, so He said, explaining what He reminded them of: ﴿So remember﴾, meaning: a remembrance of submission, desire, and fear ﴿the bounties﴾, meaning: the favors ﴿of Allah﴾, meaning: the One who has the attributes of perfection, so He has no need of anyone. His kindness is indeed kindness in reality ﴿and do not commit corruption in the land﴾ from 'athyi, which is corruption, and it is derived from 'ayth - as said by Ibn al-Qatta' - and at that time, His saying: ﴿corruptors﴾ means those who are reliant on corruption.
