And when they had exceeded in foolishness in this saying, and it had been known from his conversation ﷺ with them that he was patient with them, the longing for what would be his response to this and the expectation of it intensified. So he satisfied the thirst of this yearning with his saying: "It has certainly occurred," meaning: it is true, it is necessary, and it is near to occurring "upon you from your Lord," meaning: the One who has deceived you with the continuity of His kindness towards you and the length of His granting to you. "A great impurity," meaning: a severe punishment of turmoil in pursuit of you, both far and near, necessitating the intensity of your turmoil. "And anger," meaning: severity in that punishment from which you will not escape.

And when he informed them of that, he clarified to them that its cause was their words in the context of denial. So he said: "Are you disputing with me?" And since their deities, which they were arguing about, do not exceed mere names because they are devoid of any meaning, he said: "In names." Then he clarified that he did not name those whom they worship as deities, saying: "You have named them, you and your forefathers." And since it is for Allah, glorified and exalted is He, to do as He wills and to command submission to whom He wills, he negated the revelation, for it is necessary from the negation of the revelation: "What Allah has not revealed," meaning: that the matter is not except for Him "by it," meaning: by your worship of it or by your naming it, and he emphasized the negation, saying: "of authority." And perhaps he used the form of the revelation because the form indicates the meaning of renewed action and the meaning of gradual action. He intended [that it is in the context of the argument and in a surah whose purpose is to warn those who turn away from what this book, which is revealed gradually, calls to] - the negation in every regard, whether it is renewal or gradual. This indicates that if something had been revealed to them regarding the command of worshiping it as a single matter, they would have hesitated in it due to their lack of understanding of its meaning until the command would be repeated to them time and again, so they would know that this matter is a necessity that must occur, just as the Children of Israel did in the matter of slaughtering the cow for the sake of the murdered man because they did not comprehend its meaning. This clearly indicates that the command for them to worship it is merely the darkness of desire, for it is pure blindness from the nature of man to pursue it without any evidence at all.

And when he informed them of the occurrence of the punishment and its cause - he clarified to them that the occurrence is not apparent in its realization, but rather its meaning is the necessity that must occur. So he said: "So wait." Then he began to inform them about his state with his saying: "Indeed, I" and he indicated with his saying: "am with you" that he does not depart from them out of fear of them or anything else "of those who are waiting."
