Commentary
And when death is of two kinds: physical and spiritual - as indicated in Al-An'am in the verse: ﴿Indeed, only those who hear will respond, and the dead will be raised by Allah﴾ [Al-An'am: 36] ﴿Or one who was dead and We gave him life﴾ [Al-An'am: 122], it is as if it was said: there is no difference for us between the dead of faith and the dead of bodies. Just as we have distinguished between the jewels of the earth by creating some of them good and some of them bad, likewise we have distinguished between the elements of humanity by making some of them good and some of them evil. The good element finds it easy to believe, while the bad origin finds it difficult to submit, and its uprightness and certainty are far away. ﴿And the good land﴾ means: the one whose earth is good, so it is noble and fertile. ﴿Its vegetation comes out﴾ means: when water descends upon it, it produces a lot of good vegetation abundantly. ﴿By permission﴾ means: by enabling ﴿of its Lord﴾, meaning: the one who nurtures it by what He has prepared for it. [And that which is good in general and has not reached its full potential will produce vegetation less than that, and the bad will not produce any vegetation at all due to the prevention of its Lord for it.] ﴿And that which is bad﴾ means: it has acquired badness in its nature due to its land being saline or similar to that which Allah, glorified and exalted is He, does not prepare for growth. ﴿It does not produce﴾ means: its vegetation ﴿except﴾ means: while it is ﴿scant﴾, meaning: little and of weak benefit. And this indicates that this was based on what was described with the equality of the lands in origin and the equality of the waters and their relation to the celestial bodies and stars, except by the choosing agent - like His action - glorified is He - for the believer and the disbeliever when they hear the reminder from the Book and the Sunnah. [And the verse is from the interweaving.]
And when these verses reached the peak of their wondrous indications, the listener is worthy to say: Do all these verses clarify this explanation? It was said: ﴿Thus﴾ means: Yes, like this arrangement, which is the repetition with the difference of aspects for the difference of indications and their presentation in the forms of superior words and exquisite meanings in miraculous structures in ways that hardly fall under enumeration: ﴿We vary the verses﴾ means: all of them. And when this was completed in this strange methodology and remarkable pattern reminding of the blessings in a manner indicating uniqueness and completeness of ability - it was most appropriate to conclude it with His saying, specifying by it the beneficiary, for it is in relation to others as if it did not exist: ﴿For a people who give thanks﴾ means: there exists among them gratitude for the blessings in a continuous existence, so they do not associate partners but benefit from what He has bestowed upon them alone in His worship alone. And they see with their minds that He is more capable than them with His blessings over what they are incapable of, so they are not deprived of anything from His ability regarding resurrection or otherwise, for they claim that they are the people of high morals, of which is that the reward for good is nothing but good.
