Commentary
And when this is from the fulfillment of the right of lordship and the standing by the right of servitude, necessitating righteousness, He commanded its continuation by prohibiting its opposite in His saying: ﴿And do not cause corruption﴾ meaning: do not bring about corruption ﴿in the earth﴾ meaning: through polytheism and injustice. This is a prohibition from the occurrence of the essence of corruption in existence. This necessitates the prohibition of all its types, thus encompassing the five universal categories agreed upon by the sects, which are religions, bodies, minds, lineages, and wealth ﴿after their rectification﴾. The apparent meaning is that the addition is in the sense of 'for', and it is an addition in the object, meaning: do not defile them with corruption after He has rectified them for you in creation by what He has set in them of the benefits referred to in His saying: ﴿He covers the night with the day﴾ [Al-A'raf: 54], indicating oneness and calling to the truth for the establishment of bodies. And He commanded what He revealed from His books upon the tongues of His messengers - blessings and peace be upon them - for the establishment of religions, thus combining the first creation with the first preservation.
And when this might necessitate the limitation with complete humility to the station of fear, He negated that with His saying: ﴿And call upon Him in fear﴾ meaning: from His justice; and when there is no cause for the servants from themselves to reach Him - glorified and exalted is He - He expressed it with hope, saying: ﴿And in hope﴾ meaning: in His grace. For indeed, whoever combines between fear and hope is in the station of excellence, as if he is witnessing the Most Merciful. Nothing deters him from the deterrent of majesty with the whips of His might except the call of beauty to the carpet of His mercy. And whoever attains the station of excellence is deserving of mercy ﴿Indeed, the mercy of Allah﴾ meaning: the honor of the Lord of majesty and honor for whoever calls upon Him in this manner. And He magnified it by mentioning it in relation to a non-feminine in what Sibawayh said, thus He said: ﴿Is near﴾ and the original is from you, but He manifested a generalization and a connection of the ruling by the description, saying: ﴿Of the doers of good﴾.
