Commentary
And when He mentioned their forgetfulness and denial, He mentioned their state at that time and said: "And certainly they did that, while we - and by Our might - had certainly brought them, meaning: with Our greatness, by sending Our Messenger to them from Us, with a Book that is not a place for denial at all. Then He clarified that in a context encouraging to the compliant and warning to the opposing, and said: "We have detailed it," meaning: We have explained its meanings, leaving no ambiguity in them. We made for its verses connections at the time of that detailing, "upon knowledge," meaning: great knowledge. It came as a miracle in its composition, meaning, and all its knowledge and purpose, while it is a "guidance," meaning: an explanation, and a "mercy," meaning: an honor. Then He specified those who benefit from it, for whoever does not benefit from something is like the nonexistent in regard to it, and said: "for a people who believe," meaning: in them is the receptivity of that. And therein is a return to the description of the Book, which is one of the objectives of the Surah, in the most splendid manner and in the best style.
