Commentary
And when what has preceded indicated that they are approaching Paradise and its people, he said, encouraging and warning: "And when it is turned away". He built it for the passive form because what is frightening for them is the turning away, not its being from a specific source. "Their eyes" means: they are turned away by a turner from Allah without any choice from them. "Towards" means: facing. "The companions of the Fire" means: after they have settled in it, they see what is in it of punishment. "They said" means: the companions of Al-A'raf while they have not yet entered it, and they fear, seeking refuge from it. "Our Lord" means: O You who has been good to us in this world with all goodness, and in the Hereafter by not having admitted us to the Fire until this time. "Do not make us with the wrongdoing people" by admitting us to their entrance.
