Commentary

And when their abode was established, and they were called to continue residing, He informed - glorified and exalted is He - that they approached, boasting over the people of the Fire, rejoicing in their misfortune as they settled in the abode of ruin, delighting their souls with bliss and causing distress to the wretched. In His saying: ﴿And the companions of Paradise called out﴾, meaning: after each of the two groups entered their abode, ﴿the companions of the Fire﴾ informing them of what He had bestowed upon them of blessings, and confirming to them what they had threatened them with of the arrival of punishments. Then He explained what the call entailed by saying: ﴿That﴾, or it is a softened form of the heavy, and He mentioned the particle of expectation; for it is its place, saying: ﴿Indeed, we have found﴾, meaning: by sight as we were finding it by faith, ﴿what our Lord promised us﴾, meaning: the Benefactor to us in both abodes of reward, ﴿is true﴾, meaning: we found all that our Lord promised us truly, as we believed. ﴿So did you find﴾, meaning: likewise, ﴿what was promised﴾, and He affirmed the first object for emphasis, and omitted it here in contempt for the addressees, and so it includes what is for both groups. Thus, finding means knowledge and meeting, and in expressing the promise without the warning, there is mockery of them. ﴿Your Lord﴾, meaning: the One who has done good to you, so you responded to His goodness with ingratitude from punishment, ﴿is true﴾, for you have found what your Lord promised you truly. ﴿They said: Yes﴾, meaning: we have indeed found all of that truly. Sibawayh said: Yes is a response, meaning: in answer to: Will you give me such and such, and it is confirmation like: It was indeed such and such. [And the verse is from the intertwining: He affirmed the second object first as evidence for omitting a similar second, and omitting it second is evidence for affirming a similar first, and Allah knows best].

And when they were favored with blessings as previously mentioned, and among them was the good neighbor, and living with that is not enjoyable except by distancing the bad neighbor - they were informed of his distance and their joy was increased by his humiliation in His saying: ﴿So a caller called﴾, meaning: because of what the people of the Fire admitted against themselves, ﴿a caller between them﴾, meaning: between the two groups, ﴿that﴾, a softened form or an explanatory one in the reading of Nafi and Abu Amr and Asim, while the others emphasized it and made ﴿the curse of Allah﴾, meaning: the expulsion of the greatest King and His distancing in a manner of anger, ﴿upon the wrongdoers﴾, meaning: those who, with clear evidence, placed things in other than their proper places, like one who has not seen light at all.
