And when it became customary that the people of hardships expect relief, he informed that these are not like that, for they are impure and thus not worthy of the sacred places. So he said, beginning in response to one who seemed to say: Is there relief for these? He made clear the place of the implicit, generalizing and linking the ruling by the description: "Indeed, those who have denied Our signs" meaning: which are known for their greatness in relation to Us, "and have shown arrogance towards them" meaning: and have exhibited pride, surpassing the following of them, "the gates of heaven will not be opened for them" meaning: for the ascent of their deeds, nor their supplications, nor their souls, nor for the descent of blessings upon them, "the gates of heaven" because they are pure from physical and moral impurities. So when their foul souls ascend after death with the angels of punishment, the gates are closed against them, then they are cast from there into Sijjin. "And they will not enter Paradise" meaning: which is the purest of abodes and the most honorable, "until" there occurs that which cannot happen, by "a camel entering through the eye of a needle" meaning: until that which cannot happen occurs. Thus, it is a conditional statement on the impossible, for the camel is a metaphor for the enormity of the body among the Arabs, and the eye of the needle is a metaphor for the narrowness of the passage. It is said: narrower than the eye of a needle. And from this, the skilled expert is one who guides in the narrow passages likened to the eyes of needles. And regarding Ibn Mas'ud - may Allah be pleased with him - he was asked about the camel and said: It is the mate of the she-camel, indicating a lack of understanding on the part of the questioner and a reference to seeking another meaning other than this apparent one is forced.

And when this was for the deniers who are arrogant, he informed that it is also for the absolute severers. So he said: "And likewise" meaning: and similar to that reward with this punishment, which is that their entry into Paradise is impossible by custom, "We will recompense the criminals" meaning: those who sever what Allah has commanded to be joined, even if they are followers of the arrogant deniers.
