'And when he mentioned the believer, he followed it with the disbeliever, and said: "And those who denied Our signs" meaning: regarding what they have of greatness by being attributed to Us. And since denial may occur due to a doubt or a type of excuse - he negated that by saying: "and they were arrogant towards it" meaning: they created arrogance as someone who has a great desire for it, surpassing it to the opposites of what it called them to.

And since that is not a true reason for punishment, but rather it reveals who Allah has created for Hell to establish the proof against him - he was stripped of the conjunction in his saying: "Those are" meaning: the far ones, the hated ones, "the companions of the Fire". And since the companion of something is the one who is closely associated with it and known by it, he stated that clearly by saying: "They are" meaning: specifically to exclude the disobedient from any denial or arrogance "in it" meaning: the Fire specifically, and it applies to every level of its levels "remaining therein". It has become clear that the affirmation of the conjunction at first is for encouraging following, and leaving it at second is for warning against the harshness of the natures. Thus, the position in both places is dangerous. And perhaps among its benefits is the indication that when a messenger is sent, it is obligatory upon everyone who hears of him to seek him to clarify his matter. If it becomes clear to him his truthfulness, he follows him, and if he refrains from that, he is a denier - and Allah is the Grantor of success.
