Commentary
And when He made their leadership in the dominion of Satan, which is the absence of faith, He added to that another sign. He said: "And when they commit an abomination," meaning: an act that is extreme in its ugliness, like associating partners with Allah and exposing oneself during the pilgrimage. They said, justifying their committing it: "We found our forefathers upon it." And since this justification was clearly flawed and its defect evident, they added to it - falsely - what could serve as a reason. They said, expressing it with the greatest name, without being respectful of His majesty, greatness, and perfection: "And Allah commanded us with it."
And when the first justification was invalidated, and the knowledge of its falsehood was self-evident; for it is known that if they had found them in foolishness in acquiring wealth, they would not have followed them. He turned away from it, indicating that, and commanded a response to the second, which is a falsehood against the Most High King, while claiming that they are the farthest of people from absolute lying and the most meticulous in their words: "Say: Indeed, Allah," meaning: the One who possesses all perfection, "does not command with immorality," meaning: with anything of this nature.
And when lying is ugly in itself, and it is for them the ugliest of uglinesses absolutely, how about it being against a great one among them? How about if it is against the greatest of the great! - He said, denying them, reproaching them, and threatening them: "Do you say about Allah," meaning: the One who has all greatness, "what you do not know?" Because you have not heard that from Allah without an intermediary, nor transmitted to you through a correct channel from a prophet among the prophets - blessings and peace be upon them - and therein is a severe threat against ignorance and speaking about Allah based on conjecture.
