And when the soul longed for the response of the Most High, the Great - glorified and exalted is He - it was answered by His saying: ﴿He said: Descend﴾ meaning: to the abode of striving, contention, and opposition while you are ﴿some of you are enemies to one another﴾ meaning: you two and those you have given birth to are enemies of Iblis and those born from him, and some of your children are enemies to one another. There is no salvation except by following what I have granted you of the guidance of reason and what I have sent down to you of its support through transmission. In that is a clear warning for whoever has the slightest grasp, indicating the ugliness of the consequences of opposition, even with repentance. And it urged the continuity of vigilance out of fear of the evil of punishment. ﴿And for you in the earth﴾ meaning: its kind ﴿is a place of settlement﴾ meaning: a place of stability like the plains and what is similar to them ﴿and provision for a time﴾ meaning: the end of your lifespans, then the end of the lifespan of this world.
