Commentary
And when he conveyed this meaning to them, he informed that he confirmed it with a great confirmation, just as one who swears confirms what he swears upon. He said: ﴿And he swore to them﴾ meaning: he swore to them. However, he mentioned the mutual action to indicate that there were negotiations and attempts that took place between them in which he exerted effort. He confirmed - due to his knowledge that they were predisposed to aversion from sin - the types of confirmation in his saying: ﴿Indeed, I am for you﴾. This indicates the precedence of the preposition that implies exclusivity, meaning he says: Indeed, I have specifically chosen you with all my advice ﴿Surely, I am of the sincere﴾. And in it, there is a warning against the one who swears, and that it is most likely that every swearing person is a liar. For he only swears when he thinks that his listener does not believe him, and he does not think this unless he is accustomed to lying.
