And when the righteous were described, those who are the scholars, hinting at the advice for their protector, it was known from their state that they are the enemies of Satan. It was known that their opposites are his allies. He followed this with the description of the ignorant and the deception of their allies for them, and all of it is uncertain. He said: ﴿And their brothers﴾ meaning: and the brothers of the ignorant from the devils of mankind and jinn ﴿extend to them﴾ meaning: they extend to the ignorant, from the extension which is the delay and prolongation upon the reading of the group, and it is in the meaning of the reading of the people of the city with the vowelization of the 'dhamma' from the extension. [And Al-Wahidi said: This is most often what comes in what is praised, like 'We provided them with fruits,' so it is from the use of something in its opposite, like: ﴿So give them tidings of a punishment﴾ [Al-Inshiqaq: 24]. It is as if he is indicating that Satan most often comes to man in the form of the sincere advisor. The more appropriate interpretation is that the brothers are the ignorant because they are in contrast to: ﴿Those who are righteous﴾ [Al-A'raf: 201]. The pronoun refers to the Satan intended by it as a genus, meaning: and the brothers of the devils - and they are the ignorant who do not have taqwa - are extended by their allies from the devils ﴿in misguidance﴾ which is the opposite of guidance. [He indicated] their increased concern with temptation and their perseverance in misleading and enticing with the tool of delay, so he said: ﴿Then they do not cease﴾ meaning: they do not leave their temptation even for a moment due to their ignorance and their evil.
