Commentary
And when He depicted His majesty with this, and established His greatness and perfection by attributing to Himself all the lofty attributes, among which is the power that restrains them from Him; He repeated the warning against their partners in another style, emphasizing the previous meaning with a profound increase in the inability, which is the correction of the sight without vision. Although the first is for reprimanding, this distinction is between one who is worshipped with truth and one who is worshipped with falsehood, so that they may turn away from their misguidance and obstinacy. He said, clarifying that they are not in any of His attributes, explicitly denying the support that He affirmed for them with the confrontation of the address, which is more severe in response: 'And those whom you invoke' meaning: you persist in invoking them 'besides Him' - for they invoke Him, glorified is He, at certain times - or you invoke them leaving Him. 'They are not able to support you' meaning: in any way of support, evidenced by your inability against me while I am alone and you are the people of the earth. 'Nor can they support themselves' evidenced by the fact that a dog urinates on them and they do not prevent it.
