And when this necessitates for them - and it must - the persistence in sins until they reach what has been decreed upon them of the Fire, he said, resuming: "Indeed, my plan" means: my action, the apparent of which is elevation and the hidden of which is [loss]. The apparent is kindness and the hidden is abandonment. "Strong" means: very strong, which cannot be cut off by anyone. The Imam said after an interpretation for the Mu'tazilites, who were led by their obligation to care for what is better: I am greatly astonished by the Mu'tazilites. They see the Qur'an as a sea with no shore, filled with these verses, and the overpowering rational evidences conforming to it. Then they suffice in interpreting it - meaning: that He, glorified and exalted is He, intends evil - with these weak arguments, except that my knowledge of what Allah intends is existent, removing this astonishment.
