And Allah has not given you hearts to understand and knowledge, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear to this day. And He has led you in the wilderness for forty years; your clothes have not worn out upon you, and your sandals have not worn out either, and you have not eaten bread, so that you may know that I am Allah your Lord, and I am the One who brought you to this land. So keep the commandments of this Torah and act upon them and complete all the works in obedience to Allah and fulfill them; for you all know that we were inhabitants of the land of Egypt and we passed among the peoples, and you saw their filth and their idols. Perhaps among you today there is a man or a woman or a tribe or a clan whose heart turns away from the worship of Allah our Lord and seeks the worship of the gods of those peoples. So he hears this covenant and says: Peace will be upon me, so I will follow the pleasure of my heart. Allah does not want to forgive him, but there, the anger of the Lord intensifies against him and His wrath descends upon him with all the curses that are in this book. And the Lord will blot out his name from under heaven and will separate him from all the tribes of the Children of Israel for evil and calamities. And the next generation, your children who will rise after you and the strangers, will look at the blows of that land and the pains which Allah has sent down upon it, and the people will say: Why has the Lord done this? And why has His anger intensified against this great people? And they will say: Because they have forsaken the covenant of Allah, the God of their fathers. So the anger of the Lord has intensified against this nation and He has commanded that all the curses written in this book befall them. And the Lord will expel them from their land in anger and fierce rebuke and will drive them to a strange land as you see today. As for the hidden and secret matters, they are for Allah our Lord, and the manifest matters are for us.
