And when he informed that corruption is their habit, he confirmed it by saying, in reference to: ﴿When they transgress﴾ [Al-A'raf: 163] ﴿And when﴾ means: And ask them about their news when ﴿a group of them said﴾, meaning: a congregation of those who are considered and intended among the righteous admonishers who admonished until they despaired for another community among them who do not cease from admonishing, fearing for the admonished what they exceed in ﴿Why do you admonish a people﴾, meaning: relying on their strength ﴿Allah﴾, meaning: He who has all the dominion ﴿will destroy them﴾, meaning: there is no doubt that they will not stop from corruption and will not take heed from the admonitions ﴿or punish them with a severe punishment﴾, meaning: for the great wrongs they commit and their persistence in it ﴿They said﴾, meaning: the other community of the admonishers: We have admonished ﴿as an excuse to your Lord﴾, meaning: the Benefactor to you by protecting you from what you have fallen into of sin and turning to admonition until, if we are asked about our matter in their disobedience, we say: We have done our utmost in their matter, this if they do not return ﴿And perhaps they may fear﴾, meaning: and let their state be like that of one whose fear of Allah is hoped for, so he may return from his deviation.
