And when he and his brother were both protected from sins, he omitted what pertains to forgiveness and mentioned what relates to mercy, contrary to what comes in the question for him and for the seventy from his people, for he reversed that in it. And when the innocence of the caliph was established, and it was indicated that he was still in need of forgiveness, the soul turned to the state of the corruptors and he said, informing about that: "Indeed, those who took the calf," meaning: they desired a complete desire in taking it as a god, contrary to what was instilled in the original nature, and the one who called them to it was the speaker of Allah, peace be upon him. "They will attain," meaning: with a promise that there is no contradiction in it, "anger," meaning: a punishment in which there is expulsion or distancing. And perhaps it is what they were commanded to do, which is to kill themselves. He indicated that there is gentleness towards them in it and good upbringing for the repentance of those who remain among them by saying: "from their Lord," meaning: the one who has no benefactor towards them other than Him, who will reach them in this world and follow them in the Hereafter. "And humiliation in this worldly life," meaning: a recompense for them for their slander, and likewise for whoever is pleased with their action, especially if he is from their offspring, like Qurayzah, an-Nadir, and the people of Khaybar. "And likewise," meaning: and similar to their recompense, "We recompense the slanderers," meaning: those who rely on lies. And this is a text that indicates that every slanderer is humiliated, as is observed - even if some of them show boldness.
