And when it was established that divinity is not suitable for anyone other than Him, and that others were not able to prefer them, and the position was for greatness, it was as if it was said as an indication of the hardness of their hearts and the lack of their understanding and their poor response to the Benefactor: remember that, meaning: His preference for you by choosing your forefathers, Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Yaqub, and what was previously granted to Him among them and among their children from the blessings, especially Yusuf, peace be upon him, whom He appointed over all the land that its people had subjugated you; He referred to him with the statement turning to the manifestation of greatness as a reminder of the greatness of His entrance: "And when" meaning: and remember when "We saved you" meaning: for what we are upon of the greatness that you are aware of, and for which you are witnesses at all times in those verses "from the family of Pharaoh" and what We favored upon you after the salvation from the great blessings and We showed you from the great signs so that you may know that We preferred you over all of mankind; then He began to clarify what He saved them from with His saying: "They were inflicting upon you" meaning: they were constantly bringing upon you "the evil of punishment."

And when the context - as has passed - was to clarify their hastiness in disbelief and the severity of their arrogance in their strength and their roughness, and the purpose of the surah was to warn the disbelievers and caution them from the calamities that He inflicted upon the past ones, He clarified the evil of punishment justly in His statement about the slaughter - for it does not occur at the time of slaughtering, and it is originally for the absolute cutting - to the expression of killing because it is more indicative of death and more shocking; for it may be in a severe and hideous manner such as cutting, stabbing, and beating, and so on, with the necessity of losing that, He said: "They kill" meaning: a lot of killing - "your sons" and indicated the reality of killing with His saying: "and they spare alive."

And when the meaning was that they do not show any regard for the females, whether young or old, [and the denial of what may be the preservation of women without men due to the fear of loss and disgrace, and the suspicion of disgrace was greater], He expressed about them with His saying: "your women" and as a reminder that the killing of the sons is only due to the fear of their becoming men so that one of them would not take them away, as their priests know their king; and He indicated the severity of that with His saying: "And in that" meaning: the difficult and terrible matter "is a trial" meaning: a test for you and for them "from your Lord" meaning: the One who is good to you in times of hardship and ease, for He concealed from them what they intended to kill for, and saved you by it after He raised him with the one who is striving to slaughter him "great."
