And when the situation was one that excites the souls to their response, they began with the saying: ﴿They said﴾ meaning: all of them, no person among them hesitated nor did they waver from what Allah has granted them of the rank of faith: ﴿Indeed, we are returning to our Lord﴾ meaning: the One who continues to bestow upon us His apparent and hidden blessings until He made the last of that the greatest of blessings, not to anyone else. ﴿We are returning﴾ meaning: with death, a return that is certain, there is no escaping from it whether it be through our steadfastness or your leaving us.
