And when they finished their discussion with him, the listener was eager for their words to Moses, blessings and peace be upon him. So he resumed his speech in response: ﴿They said﴾, beginning with his name: ﴿O Moses﴾, giving him a choice as a sign of respect towards him, just as is the custom of the wise in disputes before the conflict occurs, in a context that makes clear that their intention is to present first. And that is their saying: ﴿Either you throw﴾, meaning: you first (p-27) what you want to throw to demonstrate the truth of your claim ﴿or we will be﴾, meaning: specifically ﴿the ones throwing﴾, meaning: what we have first.
