Commentary
﴿They will come to you with everything﴾. And when the indication of the context is that Pharaoh's desire is less than that of the poets due to the situation in each of them, the majority read: ﴿a knowledgeable magician﴾, meaning: one who is profound in knowledge of magic. And in the reading of [Hamzah and Al-Kisai]: 'a sorcerer', as an increase of emphasis as well, due to what they saw of Pharaoh's general anxiety. This indicates that the magicians were in that time in great abundance, and it indicates that it is in the nature of people to oppose. So, whenever the claim of prophethood can be invalidated, it is invalidated; and if it cannot be invalidated, the claim is established.
