Commentary
Then he said: Do you have another sign? He said: Yes. ﴿And he withdrew his hand﴾ (p-23) meaning: He took it out from his pocket after showing it to him as burning red as it was when it was with him. ﴿So it is white﴾ and he pointed out the permanence of its whiteness and the increase of his admiration by saying: ﴿For those who look﴾. Abu Hayyan said: meaning: for the observers. In mentioning that, there is a hint at the greatness of its whiteness; because astonishment does not occur for them except when its whiteness is beyond the norm. Ibn Abbas said: It became a shining light that illuminates what is between the heavens and the earth, having a brightness like the brightness of lightning, so they fell on their faces. How amazing are the matters of these two great miracles: one of them in itself, and that is the white hand, and the other outside of itself, which is the staff that he holds in his hand. And these two indicate the transformation of essences from wooden to living, and the transformation of qualities from darkness to shining whiteness. Thus, they were two signs indicating the permissibility of both matters.
