And when He mentioned the destroyers [by the shout for the purpose of warning those who deny it, He followed it with the destroyers -] with what is a cause for the execution of the shout and its strengthening, it is a sign of the completeness of the ability over every type of punishment by choice. So He, the Exalted, said: ﴿And as for 'Aad﴾, they are the people of Hud, blessings and peace be upon him. ﴿They were destroyed﴾ [Al-Haaqqa: 5] meaning in the most severe way that could be upon them and the easiest way that is within Our power ﴿by a fierce wind﴾ meaning it is at the utmost of what can be from the intensity of cold and sound, as if He repeated in it the cold until it became [burning with its intensity and the sound until it became -] deafening with its power. And Al-Malwi said: Its origin is 'sarr' which is the severe cold or the severe heat. ﴿Fierce﴾ meaning exceeding the limit from the intensity of its gusts and the greatness of its crashing, it acts [the actions of -] the arrogant who does not care for anything, so its guardians could not control it, and the one punished by it could not repel it nor bind it. Rather, it was pulling them from their places which they had dug and their factories which they had perfected and chosen, so it destroyed them. Al-Malwi said: Ali ibn Abi Talib and Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, said: 'No water or wind has ever descended except by measure at the hand of a king, except on the day of the flood, for Allah, the Exalted, permitted the water to overflow upon the guardians, and on the day of 'Aad, He permitted the wind to act violently against its guardians.' This has ended.
