Commentary
And when it is from the nature of humans that the forbearing among them is composed, if harm intensifies upon him from one whom it is not customary that one like him can endure like them, he approaches them and does not suspect in what the disagreement is because of some approximation. The reason for that approximation is indeed his lack of knowledge of the consequences. Glorified is He, He caused what has passed of His informing him of the realities of matters and revealing what is concealed in it by His saying, to incite and stimulate steadfastness against their disobedience, informing the misguided with its signs so that the guided may know that matters are known by their opposites. And this is a discourse for him, blessings and peace be upon him, and the intended audience is his nation, so that this may be more effective in their hearing: 'So do not obey...' meaning, O you who are commanded to save them from the pitfalls of their desires and the traps of their destruction, 'the deniers,' meaning those entrenched in denial. Al-Malwi said: It is clear that every disbelief that has appeared, and every misguidance that has emerged, and every innovation, and every evil, is indeed caused by the corruption of the intellectual and articulate power, and this occurs through denial.
