Commentary

And when the gradual leading astray occurs due to many causes, such as the abundance of blessings and others, He highlighted it with the shared 'n' between following and greatness. The delay of the appointed time occurs only by Allah alone without the intermediary of anything. He, glorified and exalted is He, said: "And I give them respite," meaning I delay them alone in their appointed times and I grant them ample enjoyment so that they may increase in sin. This is for them because no one can extend the appointed time or provide ease in living except for Me.

And when he, blessings and peace be upon him, consoled him with this utmost consolation, he explained or began to respond to one who might say: Was none of them upon this path? Naming His grace as a plot: "Indeed, My plot," meaning My concealment of the causes of destruction from whom I intend to destroy and presenting that to him in the garments of kindness and the removal of good and favor. "Mighty" means in the utmost strength, as it carries the person to the destruction of his own self by his own choice. And he will know at the time of seizing that when I granted him respite, I did not neglect him, and that My granting of respite was indeed a gradual leading astray.
