Commentary
And when this proof uncovered the doubts and lifted the veil, it reached a greater light than that of the day. He directed his words to them with a reprimanding tone, like that of one who is angry during a rebuke. He said, marveling at them and alerting them to what they are in of the deviation of their natures and the corruption of their thoughts, strongly denouncing them: "What is wrong with you?" That is, what is it that you gain from these unjust rulings that are far from the truth?
And when he alerted them that they have nothing in such rulings that could be beneficial, the wise person, upon knowing that something has no benefit in it, distances himself from it. He denounced them a third time regarding these rulings of theirs, for the negation of their conditions is more severe in negating them, as has been previously mentioned in "How can you disbelieve?" [Al-Baqarah: 28]. He said: "How do you judge?" That is, what kind of reasoning has led you to this judgment that involves equating the master with the good among his servants and the wrongdoer?
