Commentary
They said without hesitation, due to the blessing of their father upon them. Allah, glorified and exalted is He, narrated their saying: "Glory be to our Lord." This means that the Benefactor towards us is glorified in the highest manner, free from any injustice that could have occurred from Him regarding what He did to us. They confirmed the ugliness of their actions, humbling themselves and submitting to their Lord, as a realization of their repentance. This is because their previous state necessitated that their return from it should not be believed by their saying: "Indeed, we were," meaning due to the corruption inherent in our natures, "wrongdoers," meaning firmly established in placing things in places other than where they should be, as we did not firmly resolve to do what our father used to do of good. Then, we swore to abandon that, and since we did not refer the matter back to Allah with an exception, where we swore - for indeed, the exception is a glorification of Allah from having anything occur in His dominion that He does not will. He confirmed their repentance by saying, resulting from their acknowledgment of injustice:
