And when calamity strikes, it is a cause for tenderness and repentance for those whom good is intended, and an increase in disbelief for others. He resumed his saying: ﴿The middle of them said﴾ [meaning] in opinion, reason, age, leadership, and virtue, rebuking them: ﴿Did I not tell you﴾ that what you have done is not appropriate, and that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, is on the lookout for whoever changes what is in himself and deviates.
