Commentary
So when they saw it, after a journey that they traveled and there was no trace of crops or fruits in it, they said, because it had become, due to its poor condition, far from the state it was in when they were distant from it and when their intentions changed. Its appearance astonished them and its news perplexed them. They confirmed that their misguidance could not be believed given their recent acquaintance with it and their frequent interactions with it, as well as their strong knowledge of it. They said: 'Indeed, we are certainly misguided,' meaning away from the path to our garden, because this does not resemble it at all in what it was yesterday in terms of freshness, abundance of produce, and good appearance.
