Commentary
﴿When it is recited﴾ means to be reminded in the manner of following up. ﴿Upon it﴾ and if that were specific to him. ﴿Our signs﴾ means the signs that indicate with utmost clarity the Supreme King and what He has of attributes of greatness. ﴿He said﴾ means this saying surprised him without reflection or pause, [instead of] gratitude. So 'Indeed' with its context is related to what the words indicate, like 'he lied' due to his being established. It does not relate to 'he said' because it is the consequence of the condition. It is permissible for it to relate to 'do not obey' meaning there is no obedience to him for a reason if it is so. And it was read with a kasra indicating that it is conditional, so the prohibition of obeying him for the reason of wealth implies the prohibition of obeying him when described by another, by way of priority, like justifying it by poverty in infanticide: ﴿Legends﴾ is the plural of lines, the plural of line. ﴿Of the former﴾ means things that they wrote and recorded, and they finished it. A lowly nature carried him to his arrogance with wealth, thus leading him to deny the greatest thing that can be heard. He made disbelief the place of gratitude and did not feel ashamed of the fact that everyone who hears him knows his lies. He turned away from gratitude and placed disbelief in its place. This was evidence for all those previous attributes along with the justification by referring to what is in the mind of the rational person, which is more misleading and weaker than the house of the spider. Relying solely on it is sufficient for being characterized by steadfastness in baseness, and it does not act in 'that he said', but rather what it indicates, because what is in the condition does not act on what precedes it.
