And when their saying was this, despite the fact that it is a hasty demand regarding the Hour, it is a trivialization of it. So much so that, in their view, it is as if it is before the good promise, which implies that it is something that the creation can know the specific time of it. He negated that, clarifying its greatness with a greatness from His command. He said, commanding them with His response, indicating without that avoidance, for they do not deny His knowledge, glorified and exalted is He, that denial: "Say" O most honorable of creation, alerting them to attain certainty that what they have known and judged by their knowledge in it, and what they do not return the knowledge to Allah: "Indeed, knowledge is" that is, encompassing from all aspects regarding what you have asked about the specification of the time of this promise and others. And for the purpose of demonstrating the virtue of the necessary knowledge from its completeness, the fullness of ability, He directed the saying from the generality of mercy to the understanding of the absolute generality by the Greatest Name. It was said: "With Allah" that is, the One who has encompassed all attributes of perfection. He is the One who has all that is intended from Him in His hand, no one else can know it. His awe prevents the world, due to His greatness, from daring to ask Him about what He has not permitted [to ask about]. His greatness necessitates exclusivity in great matters. To that, His saying, glorified and exalted is He, alludes: "And indeed, I am". And when the context is for warning and fear, and the warning suffices in permitting the occurrence of what is warned against, how if it is presumed, how if it is known to occur in general, so that the rational person is expected to anticipate it at all times. He said: "A warner" that is, complete in the matter of warning from which the good tidings for those who obey the warnings must follow. There is no duty for me with this greatest king other than that. So there is no reaching for me to ask Him about what He does not permit me to ask about.
And when the warner may not be able to establish proof for what he warns about, because it suffices the rational person in accepting it the predominance of the assumption of its truth, rather the possibility of its truth in being cautious about what he warns against, he clarified that it is not like that. He said: "Clear" that is, revealing for the warned one to the utmost clarity by establishing evidence for it until it becomes as if it is witnessed by one who has acceptance for knowledge.
