Commentary
Then he indicated that with his saying, astonishing to anyone who pauses in it even slightly, and denying them by affirming knowledge and negating its opposite in the most eloquent manner: "Does he not know?" meaning, and all that can be known. The object has been omitted for generalization. Then he mentioned the subject, describing it in a way that brings the informer closer for understanding, and he said: "Who created?" meaning, the one who brought creation into existence from the hearts that contain secrets and bodies and other than that. And it is imprinted in everything from that which He has decreed by His knowledge and perfected by His wisdom. For every maker knows best what he has made. It is permissible - and it is better - that "from" is the object and the subject is implied, meaning: does Allah not know His creation absolutely, and He has the attributes of subtlety and knowledge, whose nature is to perceive the innermost thoughts in a way that cannot be matched? For the aim is to affirm knowledge of what they concealed, due to their assumption that if they kept it secret, it would be hidden, not the affirmation of absolute knowledge, for they did not deny it. "And He is" meaning, while He is "the Subtle" [meaning] the one who knows what is instilled in the hearts, for He reaches things by their opposites, so how about other than that? "The All-Aware" meaning, the one with profound knowledge of the apparent and the hidden, so how could anything be hidden from Him? And this is the greatest threat that exists; for whoever knows that the one who disobeys Him is knowledgeable of him and is capable of him will never disobey Him.
