And when the decree was: And with Him is a painful punishment for whoever opposes, this caused his saying to be another clarification of what has preceded from the entire surah: ﴿So fear Allah﴾, manifesting without concealment, in glorification of the station and cautioning against any misunderstanding that a type may be restricted. Thus, the manifestation indicates that the meaning is: Make between yourselves and the wrath of the Most High King a protection without regard to any particularity or specificity in anything, by avoiding His prohibitions after complying with His commands. And he added it to what is all evil from it, saying: ﴿The greed of his soul﴾. So he will act with his wealth and all that he has been commanded with what he is capable of, from what he has been commanded, being certain of it and assured in it until the dangers are lifted from his heart, and he safeguards himself from the bondage of the components. Greed is an inner creation that is a severe disease, the head of the serpent, and every trial is misguidance. And stinginess is an outward action that arises from greed. The soul sometimes is stingy by abandoning desires from sins, so it commits them, and sometimes by giving its limbs in acts of obedience, so it abandons them, and sometimes by spending money. By acting upon what has been prescribed for him, he has exited from greed. And when the protector is none other than Allah, the Exalted, the cause of his protection is His saying: ﴿So those﴾ meaning the high in rank ﴿are﴾ specifically ﴿the successful﴾, meaning those who have attained all their desires by being conscious of Allah in the worldly matters of wealth, children, family, and distractions from all that cuts off.
