He concluded the verse with the broader knowledge of jurisprudence by saying: ﴿They do not know﴾ meaning that no one has knowledge now, nor does it renew at any time. Therefore, they say such foolishness. It has been narrated that when this verse was revealed, Abdullah, the son of Abdullah ibn Ubayy [ibn] Salul, for whom it was revealed, came to his father. This was during the battle of Al-Muraisi' against the Banu Al-Mustaliq. He took hold of his father's she-camel and said: 'You, by Allah, are the humiliated one, and the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, is the honored one.' And when they approached the noble city, he drew his sword and went to his father, taking hold of the reins of his she-camel. He drove it back and said: 'You, behind you, by Allah, will not enter until the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, permits you. And if you do not acknowledge that the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, is the honored one and you are the humiliated one, I will surely strike your neck.' He said: 'Are you going to do that?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I bear witness that honor belongs to Allah and to His Messenger and to the believers.' He complained about his son to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, who commanded him to let him enter the city, so he released him and he entered.
